PELES FIRE

from the depths of Peles breasts
i felt the fire touch my soul.
with the power of creation in my loin
i touched the towering Mauna Kea
with my whiteness,
covering all the vast airless stone
with the lust i found in your presence.
Maui cast his hook far into the southern sea
and with a great pull he brought you to me.
and under a full moon
shining so brightly over Hualalai
i found myself captured in you,
beside I`O graceful in flight,
circling towards the heavens,
side by side...........
so restless in love.
i find myself in you,
you in my wings.
falling wrecklessly into the abyss of passion.
an eruption of birth,
all fears cast aside,
each moment endless in time.

The Aloha State

Hawaii was discovered by Kanaka Maoli
between the 3rd and 7th centuries A.D.
Invaded by British Captain James Cook in 1778.
Illegally made a state on August 21, 1959
Currently the native peoples
are trying to regain
SOVEREIGNTY!!!
PLEASE LOOK INTO THE INJUSTICES,
THE HAWAIIAN PEOPLE ARE THE ONLY
NATIVE PEOPLE IN AMERICA WITH
NO SOVEREIGN LANDS OR RIGHTS!!!
Economic mainstays: Tourism, federal defense
expenditures and agriculture.
The State is encouraging development
as an international business center.

Climate

Subtropical- normal annual temperature: 77 F.
At Honolulu International Airport.

The Six Major Islands

Hawaii is a string of islands -6,423.4 sq. miles
located in the north central Pacific,
about 2,400 miles west of San Francisco.
Stretching from northwest to southeast, they are:

Kauai

The Garden Island with its Na Pali
wilderness and Waimea Canyon

Oahu

The Meeting Place,
home of Waikiki Beach in Honolulu,
Diamond Head, National Memorial Cemetery
at Punchbowl and Pearl Harbor

Molokai

The Friendly Island

Maui

The Valley Island
Known for its walk-in volcanic crater,
and Haleakala the House of the Sun

Hawaii

The Big Island, The island of my home
the most varied and diverse island

Hawaii's People

Resident population (1994): 1,178,600
De facto population (1993): 1,295,100
includes average daily visitors and
Hawaii-based armed forces and their dependents.

De facto population density (1990): 194 persons per sq. Mile.

growth. In 1992 there were 7,885 immigrants,
mostly from the Philippines.

The Hawaiian chain of islands comprises
over a hundred islands, reefs and shoals.
stretching 1,523 miles southeast to northwest.
The Hawaiian chain is the most isolated group
in the world and yet also one of the most
accessible to international travellers.
A tropical paradise of turquoise bays, white,
black and green crystaline sandy beaches,
waving palm trees, lush tropical vegetation
and balmy sunshine all year round.
this beautiful archipelago of volcanic peaks
has 21 of the world's 22 climatic zones.
There are 132 islands, but tourism is restricted
to six of the eight most southerly islands,
seven of which are inhabited.
The island of Oahu has over
ONE MILLION VEHICLES (2004)
spewing waste in the air daily

NATURE, PELES GIFT THREATENED

WAIKIKI BOAT HARBOR, OCT.2003
THESE ARE THE WATERS ADJACENT TO
WAIKIKI BEACH!!!
Home to more than 10,000 plants and
animal species found nowhere else on earth,
the islands are famous for palms, coconut palms,
kamani, ohia, kukui, and hau trees, hibiscus, koa)
along with various-coloured fruits,
coffee and macadamia nuts.

Yet what we need to understand as well,
beyond all the boundries of tourist traps,
is the fact that Hawaii is in danger.
Hawaii has 317 threatened and endangered plant
and animal species. Hawaii has the notorious reputation
for having the most plant, bird and animal species
on earth. But what people dont realize is our air,
waters, and aina are as well under constant attack
and negligence at the hands of the USA, state,
county governments, and yes by you and I.

Here is a partial list of these rare and
endangered gifts from Pele I have added to show
the extreme situation that exists in Hawaii.
It is not only the Kanaka Maoli that are threatened,
as well the very aina itself is hearing its own deathknell.
We subsist on tourism, but we exist on nature.
PLEASE SPREAD THIS WORD!!
