PRIMAL VOW (three)
written by Reverend Joseph Miller

Aloha--
We are here today to join
______ and _____
in the arms of Pele and
the grace of God.
Love has brought them to this place,
Faith will carry them together
into the future.
Yes people change,
but people also have hearts and souls--
and some people continue to
fulfill the things they set out to do,
whilst others sit, wish and fantasize--
____ and ____ are here today to share a dream,
to take their lives into the realm of forever.

Promise each other to never lose
the poetry in your lives,
Promise each other to never
use words of contempt
speak to one another
only of love and truth--
as poets have for centuries--
Never lose touch or censor
each others thoughts or dreams.
LOVE and TRUTH and FAITH are the
three things you must never lose sight of.
Never become the kind of lovers that settle
for second best--
It is not the way of the world
to live in the past.
We must move onto better things,
we must grow.
We must accept lifes tragedys
and pleasures equally.
And if in time of need we falter,
We must find comfort in the fact that
we have each others
shoulders to cry upon--

Love each other as a poem needs words.
Accept one anothers faults.
Keep your eyes open when
something is wrong.
Understand each others pains as you
understand each others passions,
for they are both a part of life and love.

Take each others hands
and begin your walk threw life together.
Take no time to embrace doubt or fear.
Pass threw life as one,
without the bitterness of regret
to burdon your souls.
Never regret loveing as you do--
Never regret the memories of making love--
Never regret holding, listening,
or comforting one another--
Never forget the promises you have made,
or the passions you have felt--
Never allow yourelves to become predictible--
Life is far to short for these things,
and love far to precious--

____ and_____
always remember who you are deep inside,
that hidden child, that lonely soul--
Forever embrace freedom and freindship.
Open your hearts and souls to each other,
and in this you will find refuge in each other.
You will understand what you are inside,
instead of what you are expected to be
on the outside by others--

Enter into this union as one half of a prayer,
as one half of a soul.
Walk away as two hands clasp in prayer
and as one whole soul--
Your eyes need not speak--
Your ears need not understand--
Because you both are loved for who you are--
and that is something that in life or death
no one can ever take from you both--

With these promises--
With these commitments--
With these trusts--
I ask you _____ to
please place your ring
on _____ left hand.

And as well i ask you_____ to
please place your ring
on _____ left hand.

I now pronounce you
soulmates for eternity--
Take these vows seriously
and you will walk forever together--
You are now man and wife--
It's honi honi time-----
please kiss the bride
(commitment partner)
for all creation to see--

PROPOSAL (one)(kane, male)
(commitment partner)

On this special day
there is something i hope will
bring you happiness and comfort

my kuuipo (sweetheart)--
My friend-
who became my love--
I am on one knee in front of you
yes very far away, yet so close--
We have held one another
so we know of each others touch and souls--
i know i have asked you many things
but today i want to show you my devotion--
my love in a new way--
but before i do i want it known
that waiting is of no consequence
to me and in fact
just grants my heart
more time to fall deeper
in love with you---
On this special day,
while the aina is cleansed,
i wish to offer you a gift--
a gift that may just last a lifetime--
may last many lifeimes indeed--
we knew each other in past lives
and i want it known
that all future lives will be the same--
i am a humble man--
not a rich man--
not a bad man but
as has been seen,
im not a perfect man either--
but today i want to tell you.
in one thing i do find perfection--
it is in our being together--
in our fun loving attitudes--
in our dance--
in our making love--
in our desire to dream-
in our unwavering freindship--
so please my love bear with me--
no laugh at me no fear me--
on this day i am on one knee--
symbolizing my devotion and adoration--
and in this small box i am opening
i wish to show you just how much i care--

My love---
if you so desire me
i am now asking. not as a comfort,
but as an answer to both our dreams--
to find that love
two people deserve in life--
so as pele grants the earth the gift of rain
i am humbly asking you
to accept this token of my love and devotion--
it is but a sign of things to come,
not a question of when-
just a sign of what will eventually be--
when i first saw your face
i knew god was a thief
for he had stolen two stars
from my sky and
placed them in your eyes--
they guided me
to the happiest moments of my life--
yes we have obstacles
but they are not insurmountable---

so i will just say it in my own words--
i have here in my hand
a gift of faith
of trust
and of devotion--

___________I humbly am asking you
to accept this small ring as a token
of my pledge to be your husband--

Kuuipo no ka oi-- ke aloha

i know this is unconventional--
but then again so are we--

E 'OLELO-HO'HIKI 'OE
(i promise you)
KE HO'ONANI 'OE
(and to adore u)
E HO'IKE MI LA'AHIA
(and to demonstrate my devotion)
E KUAUA 'OE
(and shower you in faith)
MANA'OI'O
(forever)

E KONO LIMA KUHIKUHI MALE"ANA---
(will you take my hand in marriage)
